Mary Jo Hall (West) (1966)

This is my precious mother, Marianne Jackson.  When she was in high school, she was a star basketball player and I have an album of all the newspaper stories about the CPHS games.  Her coach was Harlan Harris.  My mother was very shy, but extremely smart.  She also was a wonderful pianist and I wish you could have heard her play "Cow Cow Boogie" or "On the Sunny Side of the Street."  After she and my father, Joe Hall, went their separate ways, when I was 5 years old a miracle happened.  Horace Brinkley came into her life. Mom and Horace had two children, my wonderful brother and sister, Laura Brinkley Chapman and David Brinkley.  While they were growing up, Mom helped my grandmother run Jack's Grill and then Mrs. Jackson's Lunchroom next to the Woman's Club on Main St. in College Park. Years later, mother tragically  was stricken with Alzheimers in her early 70's and our precious dad took care of her for six years.  We lost him just three years later in 2010. I miss them everyday.

Just like my CPHS classmate, Cheryl Nash Turner ('66) wrote about her mom, Vivian Hopkins Nash, there is something special about graduating from the same high school as your mother.  It's called roots and tradition.
