Gwen Weant (Jordan) - Class Of 1952

Gwen Weant (Jordan)

JORDAN, Gwendolyn Gwendolyn "Gwen" Weant Jordan of Dunwoody, Georgia passed away on September 2, 2016 at the age of 82. Gwen was born on July 11, 1934 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Georgia Marie and Romulus Howard Weant. She grew up in College Park, Georgia. After graduating from College Park High School, she attended Duke University where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi. She earned a degree in Political Science and upon graduating in 1956 went to work in the office of Senator Richard B. Russell in Washington D.C. It was there that she met the love of her life, William "Bill" H. Jordan, Jr. They were married on November 15, 1958 and celebrated over fifty-six years together. Bill preceded her in death on October 7, 2015. Gwen fully lived and embraced every moment of her years on earth. One of her greatest joys was serving and taking care of others. She truly believed that it is more of a blessing to give than to receive. With a heart of gold, she always put the needs of others, even strangers, above her own. Although she endured some significant trials and heartaches, she lived with a quiet assurance and confidence that no matter what her circumstances, God is always good and He is always in control. She was happy and content to live the life God gave to her. This world has never known a more kind and gentle soul. If you had the blessing of knowing Gwen, your life was surely changed for the better. Nothing meant more to Gwen than her faith and her family. She was an amazing wife, mother, and grandmother. She was the beloved wife of Bill, the treasured mother and mother-in-law of Anne, Cindy, and her husband Nathan, treasured grandmother of Michael, William, Andrew, Emily, Ashley and her husband Matt, loving sister of Don and his family. Gwen left a legacy of love and a treasure chest of memories that will be cherished forever. While words cannot begin to express how much she will be missed, her family finds peace and takes great joy in knowing that because she trusted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, we will all be reunited again one day. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Dunwoody Baptist Church on Friday, September 23rd at 2:00 PM. A 1:00 PM visitation will precede the service. An interment service will be held later in Monticello, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Community Bible Study, 790 Stout Road, Colorado Springs, CO 80921-3802.

I am so sad to have heard of Gwen's passing; Gwen and I went to school together from the 5th grade through high school, and she was in my wedding in 1957 as a bridesmaid, and I wish we had been able to spend more time together.  She was a very, very, dear friend of mine, and one that will be missed, greatly.

I am very sorry to hear of Gwen's death. She was a friend as a classmate and a telephone buddy from Chapel Hill to Durham, ro UNC to Duke. Those who knew her will miss her.

I am saddened by Gwen's passing. We were close neighbors and friends through the happy years of school, Campfire Girls, piano recitals, quartets. Deep sympathy to her family.
