Joy Allen (Patterson)

July 27, 1940 - February 15, 2014

Joy Allen Patterson, 73 of Columbus, IN. died at 8:52 am Saturday, February 15, 2014 at Columbus Regional Hospital.

Mrs. Patterson was born July 27, 1940 in Atlanta, GA. the daughter of the late Fred Lee and Juanita Powell Allen.

She married Tony Patterson November 11, 1978 in Atlanta, GA. and he survives.

Mrs. Patterson was an airline ticket agent for Republic Airlines for 25 years and she was a teacher's assistant at McDowell Adult Education for 10 years. She volunteered at Clifty Creek Elementary School and Northside Middle School for 8 years.

Mrs. Patterson was a member of First Christian Church where she was a teacher's assistant of 4 and 5 year olds for many years.

She enjoyed traveling, reading and Bible studies.

The funeral service celebrating the life of Joy was conducted on February 18, 2014 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St. with Dan Wallace officiating.

Cremation followed the service at the Columbus Crematory.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.

Along with her husband of 35 years, Mrs. Patterson is also survived by a daughter, Denita Hosch of Ellijay, GA.; a son, Hollis Allen Patterson of Columbus, IN.; a sister, Shalimar Hoppe (Fernando) Osorio of Marietta, GA.; and two brothers, Emmett Lee (Helen) Allen of Riverdale, GA. and Charles D. Hoppe of Atlanta, GA.

Noel Starr Smith (1955)

I don't remember how I managed it, but I had one and only date with Joy, one of the reigning Princesses of CPHS. We had dinner in Atlanta and saw "Around The World in Eighty Days". Had dinner in a group with her many, many years later and she was still delightful.
