Killed in an automobile accident on February 16, 1978.

He worked for Delta Airlines at the time of his death.  He was formerly married to Iris Thornton Chastain, a graduate from Russell High School in East Point, and they had two children, Stephanie and Matthew Chastain.  A classmate who knew him advises he also has two grandchildren, and that he was in the Navy Seabees.
