In Memory

Chester Jones - Class Of 1953

Chester Jones

Chester Jones passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2020. He was 84 years old. He was born in La Grange, Georgia, but spent most of his adult life in California, beginning with a four year stint in the U.S. Navy based in San Diego. Chester would have described himself, in the best sense of the word, as just a "common" man, an outgoing guy, known for his sharp wit and always the playful prankster. He loved and valued his family and home above all else. For 35 years, Chester was a loyal plywood salesman for Weber Plywood. He was so valued that Mr. Weber honored him with a brand new car at his retirement. Chester's true passion was baking. He generously shared his baked goods with family, friends and the community. His challah became so famous that even his son, Monte's, Little League teammates valued it as a sought-after reward for a home run. His love of baking is carried on as a family legacy. Chester is survived by his beloved family, his wife of 61 years, Darlene; his four children, Pellie Anderson, Jennie Jones, Suzy Truitt and Monte Jones; his six grandchildren, Jordan, Chesley, Kyle, Riley, Trevor, and Lauren; his sister, Angeline Bell; his nieces Beth and Laura; and his dog, Tilda. He will be greatly missed by family and friends. An informal gathering of family and friends in honor of Chester Jones will be held on Saturday, February 29, 2020 from 1-4 p.m. at the Jones home.
