College Park Community Mourns Loss of City Solicitor Al Dixon

College Park, GA (July 27, 2020)

Highly decorated, demonstrated excellence in law enforcement in Atlanta and Fulton County.

The City of College Park lost a dedicated supporter of the community with the passing of City Solicitor Al Dixon on Sunday, July 26th. Dixon had an illustrious career in law enforcement, having started as a police officer with the City of Atlanta in 1974, before eventually pursuing a law degree. Throughout his career, the highly decorated servant received accolades from Atlanta PD, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office and the F.B.I. College Park Mayor Bianca Motley Broom expressed warm admiration, stating Dixon was “a valued member of the College Park family and community.” Dixon resided in College Park, and became City Solicitor in 2003. “His depth of knowledge was only surpassed by his kind and generous spirit; our community has suffered a tremendous loss,” Mayor Motley Broom added. Former Fulton County District Attorney Lewis Slaton praised Dixon for his work with a multi-agency task force to stop illegal firearms trafficking throughout the northeastern United States. Slaton said that Dixon’s work as Fulton County’s Assistant District Attorney was so exceptional that the DA’s Office was “fortunate to have the services of an Assistant District Attorney of his caliber, who exhibits such dedication to duty.” Dixon continues to be lauded on social media; multiple reactions praise his care and consideration for transparency in law enforcement, with many calling him a “mentor”and a “person of great character.” Funeral arrangements are pending, however Al's wife advises that because of COVID, they anticipate holding the memorial outdoors in October, possibly in College Park at Al's home.
