Charles Calvin Upshaw passed away on January 10, 2019 at age 88. He was born October 9, 1930 to Elbert Madison Upshaw and Ruth Hopkins Upshaw. He was a graduate of College Park High, University of Georgia, and Emory University Dental School. He served as a Lieutenant in the Navy. Calvin practiced Orthodontics in Atlanta before becoming the first Orthodontist in Smyrna, helping children and adults smile. He was a good-natured and patient husband and father to five children. Calvin is survived by his wife of 60 years, Robbie Shelnutt Upshaw; children, Charles C. Upshaw Jr. (Maria), Elizabeth Chambliss (Sam), Carol Swayze (Scott), Ellen Allison (Sandy), John C. Upshaw (Julie); twenty-two beloved grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; cousin, Sarah Upshaw Vaughn; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Friday, January 18, 2019 from 5 to 7 o’clock at H.M. Patterson and Son, Arlington Chapel, 173 Allen Rd., NE, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. A Celebration of Life will be held at the chapel of The Church of the Apostles, 3585 Northside Parkway, Atlanta, GA 30327 on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 10 o’clock with a reception afterward.
