Howard's wife, Charlotte Hagan Hurley, reported his death due to Parkinson's Disease.

From Charlotte:  After returning home from the Army, Howard went back to college at Auburn. He wanted to be a veterinarian, and had to attend U. of GA, because there is a Veterinary College in his home state. He graduated with a BS in Agriculture and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine in 1962. We moved to Newnan, GA, and started to build a practice. He began an Artificial Insemination business in order to get known to the large animal people at the same time, he was working to build his small animal facility. He and I helped others to start a Shelter for Children by donating money. This was before Angel's House, but at least it was a place for displaced or abused children. He often helped elderly people keep their pets alive, by giving medicines and surgical procedures at little or no cost. He retired on December 31, 1999. He is missed by all of his friends and clients.
