Gerald L. (Jerry) Thompson - Class Of 1951

Gerald L. (Jerry) Thompson

This message is to notify College Park High School Reunion Committee of the death of my husband, Gerald L. Thompson (Jerry).  He died on    March 9, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.  Jerry graduated from College Park High in 1951 and was on the football team  under Coach Badgett.  He attended Georgia Tech for one year and then joined the Air Force.  He served four years in the Korean War and  was discharged in  April 1957.  Then he  attended Southern Tech for two years.  Jerry was an electronic technician and spent his working years with Federal Aviation  Agency at Charlie Brown Airport.

My name is Rebecca Lee and I also attended College Park High School.  I graduated in 1952 and then attended West Georgia College for three years, studying for a degree in elementary education.  I attended University of Georgia  and received my B.S.  Degree in Education  in 1956.  I was involved in teaching for 27 years.  Some years I taught in Public Schools but most of my teaching was in church preschool/kindergarten classes.
Jerry and I did not date each other until he was back from Korea and about to be discharged.  We were married April 5, 1958 and lived in Red Oak, Georgia until 1973.  We moved to Palmetto, Georgia and had a great life together on a farm .  We have three sons and two grandchildren.

We lived a simple life enjoying family, church and  community activities.  God  truly  blessed me through the kindness of family and friends during Jerry’s illness and following his death.  I am so thankful  to have God in my life.

Thank you,
Rebecca Lee Thompson
