I am heartbroken to hear that my dear old friend has passed away. We were in kindergarten together and went to Longino together, were close neighbors on W. Lyle Ave., trusted each other, confided in each other and enjoyed a lasting friendship and respect for each other that remained strong even though we would lose contact with each other for years at a time. Our mothers were best friends and maintained that friendship all their their lives. Jimmy was a truly nice person and a loving family man. He will be missed by all who knew him.

I am so sad to hear of Jimmy's passing.  We were classmates and friends at Longino and I have such fond memories of him.  When I saw him at a recent High School reunion I recognized him as the same kind and good person he had been as a boy. I know he will be missed by many.  I am so glad I knew him at least for awhile.

My memories of Jimmy Bazemore make me smile, and I'm saddened to learn of his death. Always willing to give of himself, Jimmy was a swimming instructor at the College Park Swimming Pool when I was a chiild. I was terrified of deep water, and I participated in the pool's group swimming lessons, but to no avail.  So my folks registered me for individual lessons with Jimmy, who was about 18 at the time. With unfailing patience, reassurance and kindness, Jimmy understood my paralyzing fear and never once made light of it; he regularly promised he was not going to let me drown. Eventually, that frightened 10-year-old girl believed it really might be possible to swim across the pool's deep end alone. Jimmy even convinced me to jump off the "low dive", promising he'd be the water to save me, if I sank like the stone I believed myself to be. My last communication with Jimmy was via his stepson a few years ago. I sent my "hello with deep gratitude for the swimming lessons", which I wondered if he remembered. I'm told he smiled, said he did, and perhaps he allowed himself a little laugh. God's blessings on Jimmy, his family and all who loved him.
