Janet Ernestine Hogan Clotfelter beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and dedicated community advocate, passed away on December 21, 2024, at 3:27 PM at Pruitt Healthcare from complications of a stroke.

Born to John James Hogan and Francis Eugenia (Harbin) Hogan, Janet was raised in Georgia, attending S.R. Young Elementary School, Campbell High School in Fairburn GA, and graduated from College Park High School in College Park GA she spent much of her life in College Park on Union Rd. on the family homestead surrounded by many loved ones.

Janet married the love of her life, Henry Leslie “HL” Clotfelter on July 13th, 1962. Together, they shared 48 wonderful years of marriage until his passing. They built a life of love, adventure, and service moving between Mississippi, Florida and Georgia before settling on the family property near her cherished loved ones. Janet was the proud mother of four children: Michael Leslie Clotfelter, Shelly Denise (Dennis) Hamby, Angelia “Angie” (Greg) Kiser and Thomas Eugene (Selena) Clotfelter. She was a devoted grandmother to Ian Pharr, Shay Hamby, Skylar Clotfelter. Janet was preceded in death by her husband, HL Clotfelter, her parents John James and Francis Eugenia Hogan, her grandsons Jason Michael Clotfelter and Trevor Hamby.

A lifelong advocate for veterans, Janet served as the president of the American Legion auxiliary. Her tireless dedication to improving the lives of veterans earned her recognition from President George Bush in the Oval Office and Georgia Governor Roy Barnes. Her home was always a welcoming refuge for neighborhood children embodying her compassionate and giving nature.

Janet enjoyed an active life filled with meaningful pursuits. In her earlier years, she loved boating and hunting. Later she found joy in travelling with HL and continuing her work with veterans at veteran affairs facilities.

She is remembered not only for her remarkable accomplishments but also for her warm spirit, kindness, and unwavering devotion to her family and community.
