Richard Furman Stephens

Richard Furman Stephens, 85, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2026, at Brightmoor Hospice.

Richard was born on November 10, 1940, in Atlanta, Georgia, to the late Louise Tolbert and Horace Furman Stephens. He grew up in College Park and attended College Park High School, graduating in 1959. During his high school years, Richard was a talented athlete and earned a scholarship to Ole Miss to play football.

Richard's love for golf began early in life and remained one of his greatest passions. He started playing golf in his early twenties, and the golf course became a special place for him throughout the years.

More than anything, Richard cherished the people he loved. He always looked forward to the next day on the golf course, but his life was truly made meaningful by his family, his friendships, and the memories he created along the way. He loved being surrounded by those closest to him and found great joy in sharing life's moments with the people he cared about.

Richard is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy; his sons, Scott and Chadwick; his daughters, Melissa, Lauren, and Dorothy; as well as 12 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Richard's life was one filled with love, laughter, friendship, and meaningful memories. While he will be deeply missed, the impact he had on those who knew and loved him will live on forever. His family and friends will continue to carry his memory with them-in the stories they share, the lessons he taught, and the love he gave so freely.

A celebration of Richard's life will be determined at a later date.
