Margaret Mae Almond

October 3, 1942 - October 22, 2021

Margaret Mae McMinn Almond of Decatur, GA, passed away at the age of 79 on October 22, 2021.
‘Grammy’ was born October 3rd, 1942 to Mabel and her beloved Daddy: James Francis Creighton.
She grew up in College Park, GA and attended College Park High. There, she created and nurtured friendships which lasted her entire life. Early on, Margaret distinguished herself to friends and teachers alike as a top student and an outgoing, vivacious personality.
As a teenager she enjoyed travelling to places like California and Havana, but her first love was Elvis. She crafted elaborate scrapbooks and named herself Chair of the Elvis Presley Fan Club.
After a romantic Pen-Pal courtship, Margaret and Claud Almond were married in 1960. They enjoyed travelling throughout the southeast and making a life together. They welcomed two children: Emily in 1968, and Daniel in 1970.
Building on a love of collectible Coca-Cola memorabilia, Margaret grew into an established Coke expert. She was a founding member of the Coca-Cola Clan, for which she chaired numerous events and conventions. Over time she assembled an extensive, one-of-a kind collection, some of which is now on display at the World of Coca-Cola.
As a self-employed, single-mom, Margaret became a prized fixture of the southeastern ‘mall shows’ circuit. Her booth of quirky toys and hard-to-find collectibles was always a crowd favorite.
Margaret was an early adopter of the eBay selling platform, which allowed her to work from home. She quickly ascended to and maintained the coveted “Super Seller” status and was dubbed “Queen of eBay” by her birthday club.
All of these achievements, however, played second-fiddle to her cherished role as Grammy. She adored Sam and Jack. She instilled in them a love of reading, learning, and animals. She spoiled them shamelessly. She gave them her full self. We love you and miss you, Grammy.
A.S. Turner & Sons will host an open-house visitation starting at 2PM, followed by a brief memorial service at 4PM, on Saturday, October 30th 2021. The address is 2773 N Decatur Rd, Decatur, GA 30033. In Lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Margaret’s name to the ASPCA at www.aspca.org . Thank you.
