Bruce Morris Cook - Class Of 1967

Bruce Morris Cook

Bruce Morris Cook

Bruce Morris Cook, 76, passed away in his home in Matthews, North Carolina, on Sunday, December 15th, 2024.

Anyone who met Bruce knew, right away, exactly who he was and what he stood for. That was his most admirable trait. He was eager to encourage you, eager to compliment you, and quick to thank you for even the smallest thoughtful gesture. He loved to laugh, he loved to clap, and he loved to entertain. When his mind was set on something, he pursued it fiercely and without fear.

More than anything on this planet, he loved science fiction. He looked to the future, and he was optimistic about humanity's potential. He was an artist and a writer, and he believed that on a long enough timeline, the heroes will always defeat the villains. He was both a teacher and a student of the cosmos, and his dreams forever sailed the sea of stars. He knew that no star, no matter how bright, gets to burn forever. He didn't face the end with fear or regret. He knew his story was one worth living, and that all stories must come to an end.

Now he's left this planet in the hands of the heroes of tomorrow. Now it's on us to live up to that potential.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Cook and Guy Cook. He is survived by his children, Ellie Cook and Jason Cook, and their mother, Bonnie Cook; his grandchildren, Lorelei and Scout; his sister, Robin Hadden, and her husband, Ted Hadden, and their children, Erin, Lauren, and Nathan.

Bruce has been a piece of my heart since the 9th grade, and now that piece is ripped a little... A long history and lots of loving memories, from the ninth grade until our mid-twenties.  We kept in touch off and on throughout the years, talking about old memories and keeping up with each other.

His precious mother, Ginny, was one of my best of  friends for years and I loved his dad, Guy, like my own.  I am so sorry to hear this, but I kinow his heart and that he is in Heaven with his Lord.

My prayers are with his family for God's comfort to descend upon them and they find the peace that surpasses all understanding.
