James Hansell Curry - Class Of 1972

James Hansell Curry

James Hansell Curry,  known to his family and friends as Jamie Curry,  age 62, of Fayetteville, GA, died peacefully on Sunday, September 6, 2015 after a battle with cancer.  Jamie suffered from Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia and then fought a short but fierce battle with Melanoma.

Jamie was born in New Orleans, Louisiana to Bob and Jeanette Curry. He spent his early years in Dallas, TX and Alexandria, LA before the family settled in the Atlanta area in 1963.
Jamie grew up in College Park, GA and graduated from College Park High School in 1972.  He went on to attend West Georgia College.  After college, Jamie was employed at Georgia Power as an electrician’s apprentice.   He began asphalt repairs as a supplemental income when Georgia Power was on strike and it grew into the family paving business.  Curry Asphalt Paving and Repairs was founded in 1983, along with his father, Bob and brother, Bruce.  Jamie was a well-respected businessman in the greater Atlanta area, known for his hard work, loyalty to his customers, his knowledge and passion for his work.

He was always quick to smile and greet you with a booming “How You”.   Jamie was an avid lover of sports, but had a real passion for the game of golf.  He looked forward to the camaraderie, golfing trips, the 19th hole and the joy of a gentlemen's game.

Jamie was preceded in death by his father, Bob J.Curry, in June 2015. He is survived by his daughter, Lee Curry  whom he loved and cherished dearly, and her long-time partner, Chris Tindol of Gastonia, NC;  mother, Jeanette Bobo Curry of Sharpsburg, GA; sister, Deborah Curry of Austin, TX; brother, Bruce Curry and his wife, Carole Curry,  of Peachtree City, GA; nieces and nephews, Katie Barter Digby and husband, Sean, of Peachtree City, GA; Benjamin Barter of Atlanta, GA; William Curry of Delray Beach, FL; and Kristen Curry of Atlanta, GA; and uncle, James William Curry of Mobile, AL, along with his golfing buddies, Lane Farmer, Todd Greak, Austin Greak, Mike Dolan and Bob Medford and numerous friends.

Visitation will be held at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 am with a Memorial Service immediately following at 12:00 noon.  A gathering of family and friends will be held after the service. The family invites everyone to join them at the family home afterwards for a continuing celebration of Jamie’s life.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University in memory of Jamie.

“Golf is the closest game to the game we call life.  You get bad breaks from good shots, you get good breaks from bad shots - but you have to play the ball where it lies.”  Bobby Jones

I am so sorry to hear about Jamie's passing as well as Bob's only 3 months ago.  I have very fond memories of the whole family and am very sorry for Jeanette's, Debbie's and Bruce' pain during this difficult time.

You all are in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry for your loss.

Best, Dave Johnson
