Willie Joe Williams - Class Of 1973

Willie Joe Williams

Willie Joe Williams Jr. 70 of Wilton Manors Florida, and formerly Atlanta Georgia, passed away on March 6, 2025, from complications with Alzheimer’s dementia.

Joe was born in Griffin Georgia to Willie Joe Williams Sr. and Floy Mae Williams on March 31, 1954. He was a graduate of College Park (Georgia) High School. He married William (Bill) Nugent on September 4, 2015, in Atlanta Ga. Together for over 25 years they enjoyed remodeling homes in Atlanta, as well as a home on Oneida Lake New York. After 30 years with Delta Airlines, Joe followed his heart by delivering meals for Open Hand in Atlanta serving AIDS patients and later the elderly.

Joe’s empathy, generosity, and desire to serve was born out of a childhood of hardship. Before reaching his teen years, he started work as a dishwasher to help pay the family’s rent. He always put the well-being of others before his own.

As the family patriarch he supported his sister Kathy by providing a home and helping to raise his two nephews, some of the happiest years of his life.

Joe is preceded in death by his father Willie Joe Sr, his mother Floy Mae, and his brother Bobby Toland.

Joe is survived by his husband William of Wilton Manors FL, his stepsons Joseph Nugent of Brockport NY and Kevin Nugent of Oriskany New York, his nephews Jonathan Williams of Morrow Georgia, Matthew (Megan)Williams of Hillsboro Oregon, and sister Kathy Williams of Stockbridge Georgia. Joe had a special loving relationship with extended family members Peggy Nugent (his husband’s first spouse) and Helen Cole (Peggy’s mother) of Oriskany NY. Joe cherished the unconditional love they shared with an understanding of the true meaning of family. Joe was the best-ever dog-dad to his beloved beagles Abbey, Mickey, and Harley.

The family wishes to Thank Trustbridge Hospice, Eagle Team of Palm Beach County, for their loving service and support.

Private services will be held in the spring.
