My dear friend died in 1971 with Leukemia. George was like a brother to me….I have never forgotten him & I still miss him today.
When I was 2 years old, my family moved 2 doors down from the Steed family on Roosevelt Highway at the edge of Newton Estates subdivision. George’s parents owned the ‘Radio Doctor’ on Main Street in College Park. My brother, Mike Hendry, & I rode bikes with George all thru Newton Estates almost every night that we did not have school (weather permitting).  We enjoyed many hours in the finished attic space that housed a fabulous train set with lots of scenery that span the entire length of the attic. We played hide & seek on a wooded trail at George’s house that led to Donald Newton’s house. We played at the neighborhood park across from the street from where Ronnie & Carolyn Newton lived. We played many childhood games in our front yards; we swam in the College Park pool & a nearby lake; we skated at the Lakewood Fairgrounds; we caught lightening bugs until our parents made us come in at night; & the list could go on & on. I went to many Georgia Military Academy (GMA) dances & parades with George during our very young years before George enrolled at CPHS. George & I attended Valdosta State College together in 1964/1965 & he was my ride to & from VSC. He later married my friend, Janet Cameron (class of 1964).

Joseph Henry Farquharson (1964)

George and I were classmates at GMA and CPHS. He was a good guy. I liked visiting his dad's record shop in College Park. I spent lots of money there on Elvis records. George had a gentle spirit and engaging personality. I was not aware of his illness or passing. I'm saddened by this reality.
