According to a 1998 obituary for Benny's father in the New York Times, Benny passed away in 1971...cause of death unknown.

Thanks, Ovid.  I couldn't find an obituary, but did find the one you were referring to, which indicates he died in 1981.  I have updated his In Memory entry.

I was friends with the family,  sadly Benny took his own life.I remember it well.
