Elaine Stakely Honel was born November 4, 1958, to Doris and Forbes Stakely of College Park, passed away December 13, 2025. Her twin sister Anne Louise died the next day. Elaine always viewed life on the positive side. She graduated from College Park High School in 1977. She was a student nurse and nurses aid at South Fulton Hospital in the nursery and intensive care unit. Later she was a receptionist for a local doctor.
She met and married Joniphan Honel a Pennsylvania native. She and Jon lived in Stockbridge for 5 ½ years until his death from heart disease. Elaine served as an elder at College Park Presbyterian Church. After Jon’s death she returned home to care for her father who had Alzheimer’s and was bedridden. Later she cared for her mother Doris. After the death of Forbes and Doris she started work at the Georgia Internation Convention Center as a concierge and then receptionist.

Early in 2022 she was struck by a distracted driver while crossing the street suffering two broken legs. She was hospitalized and in a nursing home for several months. She couldn’t return to work and was dependent on a walker and wheelchair. On December 13 her house caught fire and she could not escape.

She leaves to remember her sister Mary Stakely; many cousins, two nieces and several grandnieces and grandnephews.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 2 o’clock in the Chapel of Parrott Funeral Home with Pastor Shane Roye officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at College Park Cemetery.

I am sad to hear of the passing of Elaine! She was a most loyal and faithful friend. I know she is with the be one man who loves her most, Jesus Christ! She was a true Ram and loved College Park with all her heart.

May God comfort her friends and family!

Mark Moyle, class of 78
