Peter Zervakos was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 8, 1957 to Frank and Nicolette Zervakos. Upon graduation from University of Georgia, in 1979, at age twenty-one, he began his career in Fulton County Public Schools as the Band Director of College Park High School in College Park, Georgia. In his thirty year career as a high school band director and principal, he impacted countless lives and became a legend in the field of education. Through teaching he met his wife, Sally Major. Sally and Peter wed on June 7, 1987 at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation in Atlanta, where Peter was a lifetime member. He served his church as choir director, organist, and Sunday school director, and founded the Hellenic Community Orchestra in 1997. After three years battling a neurological degenerative disease finally diagnosed as Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, Peter passed away March 17, 2013. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Thursday, prior to the prayer service at A.S. Turner & Sons. . He is survived by his beloved daughters, Elizabeth 25, Rachel 21, and Danielle 19, his dedicated wife Sally and his sister Celeste. Visitation hours will be Thursday, 5-7pm, at A.S. Turner and Sons funeral home, followed by a prayer service in the chapel. The address is 2773 N. Decatur Rd., Decatur, GA 30033. The funeral will be held on Friday at 11:00am at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation located at 2500 Clairmont RD, Atlanta, GA.
