Career in medicine, specializing in psychiatry and mostly connected with medical schools: in New York, Tennessee, West Virginia, and St. Louis, MO, where I am now retired, but still engaged in voluntary teaching. In 2023, I moved into a senior living community, Laclede Groves, here in St. Louis.
Nothing comes to mind.
. . .
Now in my dotage (age 92), I do remember a prank I and a school mate, now deceased, Henry Duffer, played during our junior year, I believe it was. We had just learned in our chemistry class from Mr. Crawford how to mix two ingredients to create stinky hydrogen sulfide gas. While everyone was at lunch, we decided to secretly put our newfound knowledge to work. Afterward, when all of us students at reconvened in the room, Mrs. Cochran, our home room teacher, then entered the room, took two steps, sniffed once, and immediately exclaimed, "Leon, what have you been up to now?"
Luther McGahee was three years behind me, but I regret that he passed away on Feb. 23, 2023. I have also a younger sister, but she never attended CPHS. Finally, I had an aunt Grace McGahee, also deceased who graduated, I believe in 1944.
C. Leon's Latest Interactions
I just left a note on Stell Huie's profile of his passing on Nov. 4, 2024. Those of us who are still surviving will sorely miss him, along with our many fellow classmates who are no longer with us . Charles Hambrick and & I have tried to keep up with our 1948 graduates. So far as we know, counting him & me, our survivor group totals 10 now. The other 8 are: Sara Beck Fauscett, Norma Davis Brillon, Catherine "Katy" Davis Howard, Fortson Millard "Bud" Mauldin, Victoria Ruby "Vicki" Hardegree Price, Martha Head Scott, Mary Howell Reynolds, and Martha King Stevenson.

Happy birthday, Bob. I hope you, Elaine, and the family are well. Once again, I beat you there by one day. I'm trying to keep up with our ever diminishing group of survivors. I sadly read Ray Hyde's obit from this past June. I think I'll see if ChatGTP-AI can provide me the latest update.

Happy birthday, Norma.
Happy Birthday. Enjoy your fishing trip to Argentina in February.
As I noted last year, Joyce, dearly beloved by her classmates and a regular attended at our reunion, passed away either in early 2020 or late 2019. There are only 16 survivors in our class, and I'll be happy to post a list of those deceased, numbeiring 61, but I think most of them are listed in the "In Memory" section..
This photograph is of Melvin Thames, also deceased. Harold "Bo" Thames, also Class of 1948. I believe he died a few years before Melvin did.
I'm sure that you're still going strong, Katy. Race you to 100!
All the best,
Leon
