Charles D. “Charley” Brown, age 86, of Griffin, Georgia passed away on August 25, 2021.
Charley was born in Atlanta, Georgia on March 27, 1935.  He is preceded in death by his parents Edward H. and Irene Brown.
Coach Brown had a love for football and working with student athletes. He not only taught them how to be excellent athletes, he inspired them to be successful in life both on and off the field. During his coaching career, he was named region Coach of the Year numerous times with the highest honor being State of Georgia High School Coach of the Year for all classifications in 1975. Charley also enjoyed teaching Sunday School, studying his Bible, drawing and painting.
He is survived by his wife Etoile “Star” Brown; son, Kenneth Brown of Griffin; son, Kurt Brown and wife, Susanne of Sharpsburg; son, Kerry Brown of Yatesville and son, Kris Brown of Eastman. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Sarah Brown Scofield and husband Brandon, Bo Brown, Kerry Michael Brown and wife Heather, Zachary Brown and Maycee Brown; and great grandchildren Zina, Zachary, and Keenan.
Visitation will be Saturday, August 28, 2021 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am. A service will follow at 11:00am in the Chapel of Conner-Westbury Funeral Home. Dr. S. Ed Hoard will officiate. The family requests that everyone wear a mask.

Raymond Prestage (1953)

I believe Charley was inspired by our mentor Coach Badgett that proved to be Charley's life ambition.

Ward Lawton (1954)

Well Charley you back with the team again,  man it's going to be tough to make that starting team with players like Charley already there.  With Coach Badgett you made the starting team each week.  Will see you when the games over.   Put in a good word for me.  Ward

Walter T (Tommy) Fields (1960)

Charley and I coached together at Lakeshore 1965- 1972.Then worked together again at Willis Denney Ford 1972-1974. He was very special and always a team player. We both played for Coach Badgett and we both had his basic coaching philosophy! Am so thankful for these experiences! And Charley was a great influence for me! Rest in Peace my terrific friend! 🙏

Edward (Jack) Downing (1953)

Charlie was a fine fellow.  We all admired him.
