Dennis Thompson

After graduation I worked for Reeder & McGaughey Sporting Goods and attended GA State Univ. I eventually graduated from Barry Univ. in Miami Shores, FL with a B.S. Degree.
Entered Army Reserve in 1960. My reserve unit was a Combat Engineer Battalion where I initially served as company clerk, then as a combat demollition specialist.
Worked for College Park Post Office from 1961 to 1966.
Married Jane Lassetter from Newnan, GA in 1962 and we currently live on some acreage near Newnan.
Attended Flight Schools in 1964-65 and obtained Private Pilot, Commercial Pilot, Flight Instructor and Instrument Ratings.
Worked for Eastern Air Lines from 1966 to 1989, where I eventually made Captain on the DC9 and B727. I also did Union work [ALPA] and was the Atlanta Stiike Chairman in 1989.
Flew as Capt. on B727 for Kiwi Int'l. Airlines from 1994 until 1996.
Flew as Capt. on B727 for Kitty Hawk Air Cargo from 1996 until 2007 when I retired. Also served as a Check Airman: Checking out new captains and co-pilots on the B727.
I worked as a substitute teacher for the Coweta County School System from 2008 to 2015. I specialized in Math, Science, Art, and History and also covered some foreign language classes [French, German, and Spanish].
I am proud to say that either thru work or private travel I have touched the soil of each of the 50 states in the Union. I have also traveled to Mexico, Canada, the Caribbean and Europe.
I have 10 grandchildren and 2 great granddaughters who are all doing fine. For the most part my wife and I are in pretty fair health for our age.
I have been very blessed.

Played football, ran track, and played B team basketball. Still remember Coach Badgett's practices in 100 degree plus weather with little or no water. Coach thought it would make us tough. This was before it was discovered that it was important to stay hydrated. We were lucky some of us did not die.

Was part of Color Guard in ROTC along with Riley Nix, Jimmy Bagley, and Ward Akins. We won best Color Guard in County Competion.

Also enjoyed being in the Senior Play, "WE DUDE IT."
