Patricia Jean Chennault

Patricia Jean Chennault was born on January 15, 1947, and passed away on December 2, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. Pat, as she was known to her family and friends, was preceded in death by her sister, JoAnne Edwards, and her parents, Max and Anne Chennault.

Pat grew up in College Park, Georgia, where she graduated as salutatorian of College Park High School in 1965 and won the Faculty Cup for outstanding female senior. She was selected to participate as a math scholar in the very first Governor’s Honors Program in 1964. She continued her education at Emory University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts, Phi Beta Kappa in 1969. She went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Education from Georgia State University. When her children were in elementary school, Pat moved to Fayetteville, Georgia where she became an established member of the community.

Pat was a passionate educator and taught for more than 30 years in both public and private schools in the Atlanta area. Her wit and her storytelling were legendary among her students, family, and friends, along with her passion for trivia and word games. She was an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling around the United States, including trips to Niagara Falls and to the Grand Canyon. Pat also travelled internationally to Europe and Canada several times, as well as to China and New Zealand.

After retiring from teaching, Pat volunteered at Promise Place, serving victims of domestic violence and their children, and taught English as a second language classes at Carriage Lane Presbyterian in Peachtree City.

She is survived by her children Jennifer Precise (Scott) and Jonathan Sloan (Robbin); her grandchildren Will and Claire Sloan and Leigh Anne Precise; and her siblings Maxine Nelson (TJ), Martha Rogers, Mike Chennault (Nancy), Rod Chennault (Cherie), and Marla Smith (Donnie); and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family lovingly requests no flowers, but instead, memorial contributions may be made to Southwest Christian Care at 7225 Lester Road Union City, GA 30291; to Promise Place at P.O. Box 854 Fayetteville, GA 30214; or to another charitable organization of your choice.

Visitation will be held on Saturday December 7, 2019 at Mowell Funeral Home in Fayetteville from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service beginning at 3:00 p.m.
