Stanley Ray Davis (1975)

I have not used this website much and I was wondering if anyone knows how to reach Ellen Woodward from the class of 77.

It would be nice to say hello to her.

Thanks for any help.

Walter T (Tommy) Fields (1960)

I discovered this , this morning. I'm shocked. June 20, 2014

                                                     James Kite via Tommy Fields

Hugh James "Jim" Bagley, 72, of Rockford died peacefully in his home on Sept. 27, 2013, after a short battle with cancer. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and "Danda." His wise counsel and strong character will leave a long-lasting legacy.

Jim was born in Manchester, GA, on January 14, 1941, son of Hugh and Elizabeth (Hill) Bagley. Jim attended both undergrad and law school at the University of Georgia. He proudly served 21 years in the US Air Force. In September 1967, Jim took a life-changing flight on TWA, where he met a stewardess named Milena Chomko. They married in 1969 and recently celebrated their 44th wedding anniversary.

He was a savvy and intrepid traveler, and he always wanted to visit new and faraway places. He was a tireless advocate for his clients during forty years of legal practice. However, his greatest joy was investing time and energy in his family, especially his five grandsons. He truly set the standard for being a grandfather.

Jim is survived by his wife, Milena; his children, Noelle (Chris) LaLiberty and Jason (Summer) Bagley; grandsons Kevin, Colin, Ryan, Jacob, and Connor. He is predeceased by his parents and his sister, Barbara Staples.

Memorials may be directed in Jim's name to Heartland Hospice, 363 Financial Court, #300, Rockford, IL, 61107. Cremation Society of Illinois assisted the family. To extend condolences go to caringbridge.org/visit/jimbagley

To: My College Park School Mates

From: Stell Huie, Class of 48

The introduction to the forum said "don't be bashful," so I will share with you an honor I recently received from the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School in Rabun County, GA: In a beautiful luncheon at the Piedmont Driving Club in Atlanta, the school gave me the inaugural Emily and Ernest Woodruff Medal of Service to the school.

Rabun Gap was founded in 1903 for the purpose of providing an education to mountain children in the county. Entire families moved into campus housing when the founders realized the children could not get to school in the winter. The school motto is "Work, Study, Worship." Today Rabun Gap is a fine college preparatory school with a student population of 350, about half boarding and half day students. True to its original mission to assist the underserved, almost 70% of the students receive financial aid.

The school is about 20 miles from our home in Highlands, NC. I have been inspired by its work; the response of students and parents alike to the entire educational experiennce is gratifing. In these days when public schools are for budget reasons cutting back on the arts and music and limiting other activities unrelated to the core curriculum, it is wonderful to see a school where the entire education of the student is primary.

Dan Bruce (1960)

Thank you for not being bashful, Stell, and for sharing the story of your work with the Rabun Gap Nacoochee School. It's always good to be reminded that some of our CPHS alumni are dedicated to putting more back into life than they take, a quality that is sorely needed in today's America. Congratulations on your award. It represents something of real value (service to others) that you can treasure for years to come.--Dan Bruce, Student Body President (1959-1960).

I am so very glad you shared this story.  I have a family member who had problems with school and family, who was finally able to finish high school and graduate from Raburn Gap.  Today, he is a good citizen and is earning his way in life.  Barbara Coffey (Olsen)   '57.

Vangie Carruthers (Rich) (1955)

Class of 1955 news...

Pam Wiggins Szvetecz '55, and her husband Ed are in Atlanta while Ed recovers from emergency heart surgery. Ed is doing exceptionally well considering the fact that he is on the transplant waiting list for a kidney transplant. Ed, a retired Army Colonel, was exposed to Agent Orange in Vietnam and as a result has experienced Kidney failure. Neither of their two sons, Eddie nor Tommy qualifies as a donor. Pam and Ed are anxious to return to their home in Highlands, NC where they are neighbors with Vangie Carruthers Rich and husband Curtis, and Jerry and Shirley Ramsey Huie. Stell and Madeline Huie also live in Highlands. Jerry, Stell and Vangie are all involved in various vocal groups and Vangie and Curtis Rich are affiliated with the two theater groups on stage as well as behind the scenes.

Congradulations Stell ;
Its always good to hear about the accomplishments and acheivements of classnates, especially those from the heart, as I know youra was.
Had occasion to visit with Catherine Nalley in June when she and Ray visited
in nextdoor Napa Counry for a summer getaway. We met for lunch and shared stories
both past and recient. They came over to our home in Santa Rosa the following
Monday and we showed them our retirement community, Oakmont. They seemed to be
very interested in what an over 55 community like ours has to offer. I suspect
they are shopping for an opportunity to retire into northern California.
Elaine and I are doing great and will be going back to Illinois in August for
her 60th Class Reunion and a visit with a lot of old friends and her sisters and
families.
Hope all is well with you and Madeline.
Best Wishes to you both.

Barbara, I am glad that Rabun Gap was a help to your family. The school has done remarkable work for students for well over 100 years.

Mr. Huie,

During your work at Raburn Gap School, did you get to know Glenn Bell, a teacher also.  Mr. Bell was my uncle.  After retiring from teaching in the Atlanta Schools in the Biology Department, he gave his time to helping the students at Raburn Gap.  Also, his wife, Hattie Bell, gave her time there.  They sold their home in Atlanta and went to Suches, GA and built a cabin there where they spent their retirement.

Virginia Woodward. Of course I remember you and Charlie. It was so nice to see Charlie at our reunion. I had heard of his passing. I am so sorry.   Do you remember he  was my sweetheart along with Sammy Duncan in the seventh grade. They both gave me their boy scout pins and I wore them both proudly. Ah! Youth.

i have been in Alaska since 1979. Love it, love it. Glad to hear from you and hope life is treating you well.

I did not know him, but our times there may not have crossed. Do you know what years he taught at Rabun Gap?

My heart is saddened by the news of Sharon Daine (Potts) Amos passing away. I knew Rayford and Sharon both. I went to Grammar School with Sharon and considered Rayford a Hot Rod Buddy. When I listen to the Oldies from the 50's and 60's I think of them. Fast cars, blue lights, sock hop, peanuts in my coke and the list goes on and on. I am thankful and blessed to have known these two great friends. May they rest in peace until we meet again someday. Marcia Jo Wallace (Gray) (1975)

We lived next door to the Amos family in the early-mid 60's...they had a home full of love for a lot of foster children.  Mr. Amos drove the church bus and we spent many a good time riding to church or to a Bible Quiz or campfire sing with that sweet family.  Rayford was a good bit older than me, but I remember he had a sweet little blond blue-eyed baby boy while we were neighbors to his parents.  I pray for comfort for his family in the loss of Sharon.

Marnie Marshall (Brown) (1957)

Emory,

I am Marnie Marshall Brown.  We lived across the park from your family and Sharon was one of my very best friends.  We also attended the Methodist church with your family.  Tho your father was not our family doctor I felt close to your family and admired your father very much.  I also have great memories of your :"Pop" who accompanied Sharon, Anne McRae and me to dinner and movies downtown.  He was a dear..

I am so glad that you are moving your father's remains and wish that I could be with you.  Thank you for the post and giving me the opportunity to briefly share "Main" memories.

Marnie

Your father was our family doctor for as long as I can remember.  I have yet to meet another doctor for whom I hold more respect or in whom I place more confidence.

Judy Williamson (Hartley) (1962)

I had the privilege of working with your father in his office on Saturday mornings during my senior year in high school.  He was always gracious when I found it difficult to tell a patient  "Sorry, the office is closing."   Dr. Main was generous with both his time and talents.  So glad you are are honoring him.

Dear Emory,

Thank you for your invitation to attend the ceremony honoring your father.  I am Carole Stephens Fleming and lived on Rugby very close to your home when we were growing up.  I remember you well and the kindness and gentleness of your dad.  Sharon and I were classmates and close chums at Longino and also in high school.

I now live in Sarasota and will be unable to join you in this event, but want to send my best wishes to you and appreciation for this opportunity to reflect on our growing up years around "the Park."

Hi Emory,

I am so glad you are able to do this with your father's remains.  Like Marnie, I knew your family and participated in many activities with Sharon.  Even had dinner a time or two at your home.  Your father and your family were well respected in the College Park Community.  Thank you for sharing the information and I know those who can attend will find it a meaningful experience.

Jane Rowlett (Seawell) (1958)

Dear Emory,

I have just returned from a trip and only got your message today.    Dr. Main was not my regular doctor but I think everyone in my family went to him at one time or another while we were growing up.  I first knew him as your dad, though, and liked him very much.   I also thought you were lucky to have such an important man for a father.

I wish I could be there for your tribute to him.  I have some previous committments Thursday and since I live in Charlotte, I will not be able to attend.  My mother, my grandmother and her family are all buried at Westview.  It is a lovely place and one I have visited countless times.  I hope to be able to visit Dr. Main's resting place the next time I go.

Thank you for your invitation.  I will be thinking of you and your family.

Jane Rowlett Seawell
